Frequently Asked Questions
Do you shoot 35mm and Medium Format for weddings?
Yes! I use 35mm film and Medium Format/120 film. I have a 6x7 format camera and 6x4.5 and use both on a wedding day.
What is the benefit to having a digital photographer while you shoot film?
This means you get the best possible outcome on both digital and film if both mediums are important to you. When it's just me, we will talk about moments that can't be repeated and which medium you feel you would prefer me to shoot, or if you would like me to decide whereas if you have a second digital photographer each moment will be on both digital and film.
What is your photography style?
I specialise in documentary captured like a guest with a camera, mixed with some curated editorial and creative moments, guiding you when you need it but mainly letting the day unfold naturally and organically. My approach is to capture natural moments while also ensuring we get the important portraits and family photos. I do love an editorial portrait too though!
How does 16mm and Super 8 work?
Created in 1923 16mm is a beautiful medium, best described as a step up from Super 8 in an incomparable way. 16mm captures more detail and the camera we capture these films on is the best you can find, more stable than the Super 8 counterparts, it's a true workhorse made for film making. 16mm is great for short postcard cinematic cuts from your day as well as curated highlight captures of important moments throughout your day. Super 8 was made as a more accessible and affordable medium in 1965 for home movies, this film is great for longer highlights of your day.
Both 16mm and Super 8 do not record sound. VHS or Camcorder may be a good option if you'd like some sound recordings from your day which are both available to book.
What video options do you offer?
How much film do you shoot?
I typically shoot around 25-35 rolls of film.
Is there any benefit to do pre or post wedding pictures?
When possible we can capture couple photos without cutting into your time with friends and family on the big day. It also gives us the flexibility to head to a beautiful location and take advantage of the best lighting at sunset, or even sunrise. If we have a shoot beforehand, it will help you feel more comfortable in front of the camera and can be a fun experience with loved ones, like during a rehearsal dinner on a catamaran.
If you’re wanting some more creative images, creativity takes time. While I’ll make the most of the time we have on your wedding day, having more time allows us to slow down and truly enjoy the process. If you're feeling rushed or stressed, squeezing photos into a tight window isn't ideal.
Booking an engagement session is also a great way to feel more comfortable in front of the camera ahead of your wedding day.
Do you work with a second photographer?
Yes, you can add on a second or third photographer when needed or for the whole day. A second photographer helps capture different angles and moments, especially when events happen simultaneously. Usually I will work with my partner Jared, if he isn’t shooting vidoe for your day already.
How do we book you?
Firstly, from the moment our contact begins, I want to know more about you both and as much as possible your plans are for the day no matter how big or small. It's very important to me that we are aligned in more ways than one. So the more I know the better, for both you, and me.
Please fill out my contact form and let me know as much detail and info as possible + check my availability. If the stars align, I like to meet in person or via video call to make sure we will be a good fit. Following our catch up, I’ll send over a contract and invoice for the date retainer. Your date is locked in once the contract is signed and the date retainer is received.
